Safety For Run Clubs and Meet Up Groups
- We encourage all run clubs to read, implement, and revisit these promises regularly for improved safety in our groups.
- We promise to have at least (1) annual discussion about runner safety.
- We understand runner safety encompasses several few subtopics: best practices, weaponry, self defense, environments, etc.
- We promise our run club will do what is within our power to help all runners (especially runners new to the group and visitors) feel safe and not vulnerable while attending our group.
- We will consider a check-in/check-out board or buddy system for all runners.
- We will encourage all runners to report secluded and/or non-lit areas, send us an email if you are not sure how.
- We will consider attending, as well as making others aware of, Safety Forum dates and ensure everyone knows they are welcome to join!
Adult Programs
Based out of Charlotte, NC, Lisa Landrum founded Forward Motion with the goal to train runners of all levels in a way that strengthens more than just the body. This program offers individual, small group, and monthly plans.
At Black Men Run we believe that running/jogging can change these alarming trends and we are here to encourage African American males to get out and be active!
Charlotte Running Club is a non profit organization and all the board members are volunteers who invest in their personal time to promote a healthy lifestyle and give back to the community.
Charlotte Track Club is a non-profit organization that centers around running. Our mission is to foster a healthy and active community by providing programs and services that will improve family life.
An 8 week 5k training program training for the Keep Pounding 5k for Team Easton a brave little boy in the group. You can run with or without your stroller. We meet twice a week at Fleet Feet Huntersville.
Run For You is the premier running training program in Charlotte, NC. Whether you want to get FIT, run FAST, or run FAR, Run For You has a place and pace for you!
Youth Programs
Forward Motion Cross Country is dedicated to our next generation of runners, focusing on middle and high school athletes. Strength conditioning will make sure the runner is as strong as possible: this translates to faster. FXMC will ensure conditioning to keep the athlete in shape, even in the off-season. Attention will be paid to proper form with an emphasis on efficient running. The mental component of competition and day-to-day training is also addressed, making sure that the complete well-being of the athlete is the focus.
Our Mission and Objective: To impact the lives of youth with the skills they need to run Cross Country and live healthy lives with character.
The Cross-Country for Youth program objective is to introduce youth to Cross-Country training and introduce character development concepts such as Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship, Discipline, Commitment, Integrity, Courage, Perseverance, Teamwork, and Leadership.
WE INSPIRE GIRLS to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.
Let Me Run is a 501(c)(3) charity. Let Me Run inspires boys through the power of running to be courageous enough to be themselves, to build healthy relationships, and to live an active lifestyle.
Routes
Here are a few of our favorite routes and workouts. Do you have a route you think others would like? Please share!
We suggest accessing these routes on your phone for turn-by-turn directions. To do that, please submit a friend request to mapmyrun.com, run CLTrun (you have to get that exactly correct: first name “run” last name “CLTrun”)
As always, run with caution, or better yet, with a friend. Questions? Please ask! We don’t want any lost runners.
For real, they aren’t. Try some of these workouts to mix up your training. The miles still count!
A few faves in the area (within about 30-ish minutes of uptown). It’s always smart to practice safety precautions and run with a buddy if possible, it’s perhaps more important to do it on the trails. Please be respectful of the trails (check out the article on Trail Etiquette under the LEARN tab). For god’s sake don’t wear earbuds. Also, beware of those mountain bikers, they mean business.
Live in South Charlotte and need a new loop? Check out this one from our friend, Ed.

Want to run a little AND shop a little? This breezy little 3 miler is perfect for a quick loop.

Park at Old Bell Road and start on the paved part of McAlpine: this route can really take on a lot of different shapes. It will take you on the regional cross country course and turn you back around, finally winding through some very tame trails at Boyce Road Park and ending again at Old Bell. The option to add miles comes if you continue on to the left at mile 2.7ish (before curving around right to trail)– cross the bridge to stay on Campbell Creek greenway, which continues an additional 2.5 miles.

If you aren’t feeling fatigued by the end of this workout, email us because you are doing something wrong! Park at Park Road Shopping Center and head on down Brandywine Road away from the the shopping center. Immediately after the bridge, you will find Little Sugar Creek Greenway. Step on and GO.
Here’s the workout: 1 Mile Warm Up followed by 5 X 20 second sprint (yes, sprint) then (NO REST) take it down just one or two notches to a little faster than tempo pace for 40 seconds. After five of these repeats (with NO REST in between them), take a 3-5 minute recovery and DO IT AGAIN. We got 5 in a 7 miler, but your personal amount of these 5×20/40s may differ. End with at least a mile cool down.
This course is an out and back on the greenway so you can choose the distance, all the way up to the end at 7th Street –total of 7.5.

Now, if you’re running in Charlotte, it’s hard to get away from hills, we all know. And hills, as we also know, mostly suck. Annnnd, even though we hate to admit it, we also know they make us better runners. So try this flow-y 6 miler through a fancy neighborhood. At least you can distract yourself from the hills by looking at the mansions and new construction. Park at St. Gabes Church on the corner of Providence and Sharon.
